I was born in Kentville and lived in New Minas (across from Kate’s Bakery), where my father operated the garage (across from Andy’s Tire). We moved to my grandparents’ home at 238 Main St. the year I was in grade 6 to help look after my
failing grandmother.
After finishing school I moved to London, Ontario where I worked in a pharmaceutical lab. Next, I went to Newfoundland for a total of eight years. I helped construct a herring reduction plant in Riverhead, St. Mary’s Bay. Then I
partnered in Witless Bay Fishmeal Ltd., a fish waste processing plant, which I managed for seven years. During that time a Kentville lass and I married and began our family in Newfoundland.
We decided to return to Kentville to raise our children and started First Choice Construction Ltd., specializing in excavating and the construction of Butler prefabricated steel buildings. Once our children had “fledged and flown from the nest” we stopped operating the business. Next, I became involved in the precast concrete industry where I worked throughout Nova Scotia and the Caribbean.
I am currently involved with my two children in property management. We have also started Canaan Precast which designs and constructs leading-edge residential precast concrete housing and precast countertops. We polish concrete floors and refinish wood floors without creating dust.
I am an avid cyclist and believe in an active lifestyle. I was once an active member of the Kentville Rotary Club and currently volunteer with Fidelis House.
With your help, my next endeavour is to represent the residents of Kentville as one of the councillors.
